Evolution of host gene x microbe interactions in the lung microbiota
We are generally interested in the genetic basis of variation in host-associated microbial traits and how this relates to disease susceptibility. Using genetic mapping approaches we previously identified host loci that associate with differences in bacterial taxon abundance in the mouse lung microbiota, some of which are known to be associated with inflammatory disorders in humans. In this project, we aim to further confirm and characterize associations between host loci and bacterial taxa using transgenic mouse models and microbial colonization experiments.
