The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön (Schleswig-Holstein) consists of three departments (Evolutionary Genetics, Evolutionary Theory and Microbial Population Biology), and several department-independent research groups. It is focused on basic research to unravel general evolutionary processes, and the scope of the work includes ecological, organismic, cellular, molecular and theoretical approaches.
The department-independent research group of “Evolutionary Cell Biology” aims to understand how evolution works at the cellular level, using bacterial sporulation as a model system.
