Training phase
At the beginning of the program, each doctoral researcher who successfully completed the regular IMPRS application procedure, starts with a six-month training phase in research groups within the IMPRS. The aim of the training phase is to familiarize newly recruited candidates with the IMPRS and vice versa. In addition, important methods and techniques can be learned for better performance in the upcoming doctoral project.
Ideally, lab rotations are taken right at the start of the doctoral project and should be done in two of the participating institutions, preferably one in Kiel and one in Plön. One rotation usually takes place in the lab where the doctoral thesis is planned. The location for the second rotation is chosen together with the supervisor so that the interests and skills of the student are complemented.
