Abstract

I will first give a conceptual perspective on fitness and evolutionary birth-death process, and then show how classical ecological models can be used to generate macroevolutionary patterns, such as
diversification (of which I will give an empirical example) and evolutionary community assembly. Of particular interest is the dimension of phenotype space and how it affects the evolving diversity as well as the complexity of evolutionary dynamics.
