Having ideas is common, bad ones more so than good ones. However even the best ones are difficult to translate into practice because they encounter hurdles during their development. The talk 'fragility of ideas' deals with the nature of these hurdles and discusses the human factors which create and influence them in a variety of different historical and contextual settings. As a guide it uses the story of the development of new heart valve technology which I accompanied from the concept to clinical application. [more]
