The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU) has appointed Dr Julien Dutheil, Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology (MPI), as Honorary Professor.

Dr. Julien Dutheil is head of the Molecular Systems Evolution research group at the MPI in Plön. The aim of his research is to investigate the role of chance in evolutionary processes, from populations and species to molecules in the cell. His research includes statistical analyses and theoretical modelling of genomic data. At CAU he teaches phylogenetics, population genetics/genomics and human evolution.

The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology congratulates Prof. Dr. Dutheil on his appointment. This additional connection will further strengthen the existing cooperation between the MPI for Evolutionary Biology and the CAU.

Dr Julien Dutheil studied biology in France. After a PostDoc stay in Aarhus, Denmark, he was appointed as a permanent CNRS researcher at the Institute of Evolutionary Sciences in Montpellier, with which he still maintains close ties. The CNRS is the national centre for scientific research in France. He moved to Germany and became head of a research group at the Max Planck Institute in Plön in 2014.
