City of Plön Takes Sponsorship of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology
On Thursday, September 19, the city of Plön officially confirmed its sponsorship of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in a formal ceremony. The event took place in the Schiffsthal Assembly Hall in Plön and brought together representatives of the city, including Mayor Mira Radünzel and City Council Chairman Thure Koll, with the institute’s directors, Arne Traulsen and Paul B. Rainey. Representatives from the Naval Petty Officer School (MUS) and the partner city of Plau am See also attended the ceremony.
The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology has a history of more than 130 years in Plön. Originally founded as a biological station in 1891, the institute has been part of the Max Planck Society since 1948. The official sponsorship affirms the historic and close connection between the city and the institute, which is now further strengthened through this sponsorship.
Mayor Mira Radünzel emphasized the special significance of this sponsorship: “Taking on this sponsorship is a sign of appreciation for the outstanding scientific work carried out by the Max Planck Institute in Plön. We look forward to deepening this relationship further.”
Arne Traulsen, Managing Director of the institute, added: “The city of Plön’s sponsorship of our institute shows how close our collaboration already is, and it provides an excellent opportunity to further develop this relationship. We are pleased with this symbol of solidarity and partnership.”
The city of Plön's previous positive experiences with the Naval Petty Officer School, which has also been a “godchild” of the city for many years, give hope that this new sponsorship will lead to successful initiatives that will benefit both the city and the Max Planck Institute.
With the sponsorship, a new chapter begins in the long-standing collaboration between the city of Plön and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology, offering much potential for future joint projects.
