Research Group Dynamics of Microbial Collectives
We are interested in the emergence and maintenance of structure and function of cellular assemblies - such as bacterial biofilms, multicellular stages of social amoeba, and planktonic communities - characterized by strong interactions and coordination among the composing units. By combining mathematical models, experiments in controlled conditions and environmental data analysis, we explore the interplay of cellular-level properties and collective function on the ecological and evolutionary time scales.
